Andree Symons’ “Howie”
Howie was rescued in April 2002 from Osceola County Animal Control. He was heartworm positive, very underweight (34lbs), had skin and ear infections, was very badly matted and very nervous of people but particularly terrified of men. However, his tail never stopped wagging so I felt there was definitely hope that this little boy could overcome his fears. I was fostering him but it became apparent very quickly that he viewed me as a suitable new owner!! How could I resist - he was officially adopted and became Howie Symons! Six years later he is healthy, and happy and loves everyone! He is a typical bouncy barking beardie with a constant smile on his face!

Maureen and Jean Larroux’s “Chloe”
Chloe joined her forever home in March of 1995. She was two years old at the time. Chloe had been raised by an older woman who was moving to a nursing home and no family member wanted Chloe. A friend of the woman, fostered Chloe and was ready to send her to a shelter when Jean noticed an article about Chloe in the newspaper. Knowing I fall in love with every dog I meet, Jean, not telling me, went to meet Chloe (she had a different name at the time). The foster home in Seminole said Chloe did not like men but she took to Jean as soon he met her. The foster home said she was ours because she took to Jean even though others were interested in Chloe but she wasn't interested in them. Of course, I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and that was 13+ years ago. She came home to our two male terrier mixes, Crash and Caesar, that welcomed her on our first walk around the neighborhood. In her younger years she loved any kind of boating, power or kayaking and would swim laps in the pool with the command of "do a lap", the more you clapped and cheered her on the faster she would swim laps. In recent years she has welcomed her two much younger Beardie sisters, Bella and Ohnee. Ohnee, our youngest, has become Chloe's soul-mate and always has an eye on Chloe. Chloe has had two episodes of ODVS in the past four years and has the typical "Senior" issues of arthritis in her hips and loss of eye sight and most recently some kidney issues. However, she still has the will to keep on going and enjoys her neighborhood walks, even though a bit slower than before. We treasure every moment we have with our dear fawn, Neardie, Chloe.
